This program will help people get on the fast track to becoming a doctor
Many individuals who have dreams of personal growth in the medical field realize that they have to put aside years in order to attend medical school. However, some school systems are looking to make for an easier transition for interested students with dreams of entering the practice.
According to the Associated Press, officials from the University of Texas (UT) school system are trying to make it easier for people who are looking to enroll in medical school. All six of the UT campuses – including Dallas, San Antonio, Austin, Brownsville, El Paso and Edinburg – will partner up to shorten the amount of time it takes physician hopefuls to earn their bachelor's degree, medical degree or both.
School officials pointed out that it typically takes a while for aspiring practitioners to achieve their set goals.
"Medical education, in general, takes too long, costs too much, it's redundant, and it also doesn't necessarily prepare people for practice in the 21st century," Dr. Kenneth Shine, the executive vice chancellor for health affairs at UT, told the Austin American-Statesman.
