
It's important that teachers make a difference
Having a positive role model in the school system is important. As the education system continues to come under scrutiny across the country due to children falling behind their peers in other parts of the world, it is important that teachers who prove to be valuable to the school system are recognized for their positive effects.
In Central Texas, two teachers were recently recognized for their efforts in the academic system, and received Presidential Awards of Excellence for their hard work, according to the local ABC affiliate, KVUE News.
Dixie Ross, an AP calculus teacher at Pflugerville High School, took home the award in mathematics. Having been a teacher for 27 years, Ross has clearly helped a lot of students with their personal growth in the field.
Receiving the science award was Joy Killough, who is a biology teacher at Westwood High School. Killough has been in the profession for more than 30 years.
The Presidential Awards of Excellence in Math and Science have been around since 1983, and have recognized more than 4,000 teachers for their hard work, according to its website.
