Veterans are trying to get their diplomas
Many people are interested in attaining personal growth in terms of education but somehow get sidetracked due to other duties.
Some military veterans are heading back to high school in order to finish what they started before they went off to serve, according to the Caller-Times. Robert Godoy, who left high school a year before he was supposed to graduate in order to join the Marines during the Vietnam War, decided to return for his diploma after he found about a provision in the Texas Education Agency code.
The news provider reports that this provision allows a school district to issue a diploma to honorably discharged veterans who dropped out in order to serve in World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.
In addition to Godoy, more than two dozen veterans applied for diplomas from four different high schools within the Corpus Christi Independent School District.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, those who possess a high school diploma go on to earn a higher average wage than people who do not.
