Research has shown that yoga classes may indeed help improve heart health in adults.
There are dozens of risk factors that contribute to the likelihood of heart disease, and though no single system can address them all, a holistic mind-body regimen may at least be able to improve several of the most widely known determinants of cardiovascular problems. Research has shown that yoga classes may indeed help improve heart health in adults.
A study published in the Journal of the Association of Physicians of India found that individuals who took daily yoga sessions for three straight months tended to see a reduction in their blood pressure.
Likewise, participants had lower measured levels of blood-borne cardiovascular health markers like cholesterol, glucose and triglycerides.
All patients started the study with hypertension, which the daily one-hour yoga instruction appeared to partially relieve, the authors said.
Researchers concluded that yoga's deep breathing, stretching, posing and low-impact routines can reduce stress and deliver moderate amounts of exercise to individuals with high blood pressure or other risk factors for heart disease.
Dahn Yoga community centers offer dozens of classes for people of all ages, backgrounds and body types, including those with neurological diseases or chronic illnesses.
