Champion Center Member Evangelina Shares About Her Dahn Yoga Experience

January 22, 2011

I have been a member at Dahn Yoga for a little over a year. When I joined, I was still healing from some of the emotional wounds of having lost my husband a few years before. I was definitely out-of-shape and had been put on high blood pressure medicine. Not being one to take pills, I wanted off those pills as soon as possible!

My first few classes were great – gentle stretches, Brain Wave Vibration (like dancing in place with your eyes closed!), and meditation – all practices that I enjoyed. I grew more interested in exploring this new type of yoga that incorporated yoga, tai chi, and some martial arts into one practice.

This led me to begin taking the workshops Dahn Yoga offered to help me grow physically, emotionally, and spiritually. These workshops helped me overcome some of the limitations that I had placed on myself.

Physically, I no longer take the blood pressure medicine, and I can touch the bottoms of my feet when we stretch in class most of the time. I have lost some weight (I‘m down three pant sizes), and I can even feel my ribs again!

I am increasingly more peaceful and less likely to go off at the least annoyance in my life. I laughed often before I took yoga, but now I find that the laughter stays in my heart longer. I find peace instead of guilt over some of the problems I had when my late husband was ill. It seems everyone had forgiven me for any missteps or mistakes I made in caring for him but me! I deal with problems much more easily now instead of just yelling about them. I am coming back to myself!

I am now more open to love, not just for my new husband, but for myself, my friends and family, and all of humanity. I want to help this world and everyone in it.

To this end, I enrolled in the Dahn Yoga Brain Management Consultant workshop last year. I am now using this training to teach yoga this spring at the local community college adult education program, Academy for Lifelong Learning (http://lonestar.edu/all-tomball.htm), which is open to adults over the age of 50. I also reach out to my community every day through my store LadyArts (http://ladyarts.net) using the confidence I have gained through yoga. This spring we at LadyArts are proud to offer a class called Aromatherapy and Yoga for Body Types, and I am teaching the yoga portion of the class.

Not bad for one year, huh?

  1. Great article, I just given this onto a co-worker who was doing a little research on that. And he in fact purchased me lunch because I discovered it for him

  2. This is a smart blog. I mean it. You have so much knowledge about this issue, and so much passion. You also know how to make people rally behind it, obviously from the responses. Youve got a design here thats not too flashy, but makes a statement as big as
